My Husband and I have a Thanksgiving tradition: We spend the long weekend outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, camping, canoeing, or just a backyard bonfire, we use the long weekend to try and grip on to the last bit of warm autumn air.

This year, after a camping trip in the backcountry of Kejimkujik National Park, we did a 9.5KM hike in the pouring rain. Needless to say, the thought of this warm, sweet, spicy drink kept me going.

When we arrived home, I started a pot of Whiskey Spiked Apple Cider before I even unpacked our camping gear. It warmed us right up! Farmer’s Markets are full of fresh local apple cider throughout September and October, making this a perfect fall drink.

Recipe for Whiskey Spiked Apple Cider:
4.5 Cups of Fresh Apple Cider
5 Oz of Whiskey or Scotch (I used Crown Royal Northern Harvest)
3 Fresh Cinnamon Sticks
2-3 Fresh Star Anise
2 Tablespoons of Honey
A Splash of Lemon Juice
Fresh Apple Slices

Instructions for Whiskey Spiked Apple Cider

1: Mix your apple cider, whiskey, cinnamon sticks, star anise, honey, and lemon juice in a pot.

2: Over medium heat, stir your cider mixture until it starts to steam.

3: Once warm, remove from heat. Garnish with fresh apple slices, star anise, and cinnamon sticks. Serve immediately.

Enjoy!
